OK, let me be the first showing interest in this. In our collaboration
(mainly GSI-based, intermediate-energy nuclear physics) the dominating
analysis tool is PAW under OpenVMS. Myself, I mix this with ROOT on
Sparcstation, but the current "one-way" situation when sharing data among the
collaboration members hampers the transition to ROOT for me and my
colleagues. A possibility to "reconvert" at least simple data structures to
HBOOK would thus increase the usefulness of ROOT a lot.

The ideal solution would naturally be that an OpenVMS port of ROOT was
available... Too much to hope for, I guess.
