THE FOURTH SYMPOSIUM ON A POWER SUPPLY FOR AN ACCELERATORS

December 17th- 18th 1998
OSAKA JAPAN

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
November 24th 1998

In recent years, power supllies for particle accelerators (synchrotrons, cyclotrons and etc.) have been developed very much and we have operated the accelerators with high stability and reproducibility, successfully. As a result, we can obtain high-quality beams with a reasonable routine.

In our opinion, developing the power supplies is mainly due to developing methods to lower ripples and spikes of the load sides of the power supplies. In future, measures against harmonics of not only the load side but also the primary side will develop. In point of realization of good electromagnetic field environment, developing the power supplies for the particle accelerators may come to solve environmental problems, which is widely required in human society.

On the other side, decreasing consumption electric power is one of the important subjects. In this sense swith mode power supplies, in which the efficiency of the transformation is high, are considered to be high-quality power supplies for both the load sides and the primary sides and are being developed in most of the facilities for particle accelerators.

The fourth symposium on a power supply for accelerators will hold at Research Center for Nuclear Physics(RCNP), Osaka University. It is hosted by RCNP in collaboration with Cyclotron Group, RIKEN. The symposium title is "Latest switch mode power supplies and high-performance power supplies for particle accelerators". However, we are also interested in other topics in connection with power supplies, such as development of other types of power supplies, ideas and suggestions to economize on consumption electric power of the power supplies and to solve the environment problems, high-quality measurements of the magnetic field generated by electromagnets which are the load of the power supplies, and so on. We would like to ask you to present your results and/or to participate with this symposium.
