Abstract:

Spallation neutron sources are strong sources of pion production and hence intense sources of intermediate energy neutrinos, out to 54 MeV.

A long list of fundamental neutrino experiments have been designed by a group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL),Spallation Neutron Source (SNS).The neutrino laboratory at the SNS will not be built for about 8 years;however, a similar SNS will be built in Japan. The international neutrino community would be very interested in this facility.

Examples of the physics potentials include:neutrino oscillation studies, precision measurements of electron-neutrino scattering, accurate measurements of neutrino-nucleus interaction cross sections, for example, deuteron disintegration, Fe-56 and many cross sections important in supernovae collapse models. The phenomenology of many of these will be discussed.
