Annual Report 2017

   Director's Greetings − High Lights in 2017

Anual Report 2017 | 大阪大学 核物理研究センター | Research Center for Nuclear Physics, Osaka Universityト

We are pleased to release this report on our activities in 2017 at Research Center for Nuclear Physics.

From the activities at the Ring Cyclotron Facility, Full beam current operation of the new DC muon beam line, MuSIC. Various programs in a variety of research fields were carried out st MuSIC. Another topic covered in the highlight pages is a progress report on an active target system for nuclear reaction measurements in inverse kinematics developed by Kyoto group. The target system, which is called MAIKo, will be used to search alpha cluster states in 10C.

A new project for realizing targeted alpha therapy using a short-lived alpha emitter 211At has been also started in collaboration with Graduate School of Medicine and Graduate School Science as a high priority interdisciplinary project at Osaka University. The outline of the project will be given in this report.

From LEPS, new results on the measurement of the γ4He →ϕ4He and γp → ϕp reactions have been reported. The results indicate possible contributions of natural parity exchanges other than the Pomeron in the bump region around Eγ=2.1 GeV. At J-PARC, preparation for an experiment on charmed baryon spectroscopy via the p(π−, D∗−) reaction is in progress, and the status of R&D is reported.

In the theory division, a lot of progresses have been made for the better understanding of Y N and Y Y interactions from the intensive lattice-QCD study by means of HAL-QCD method. The study shows that the ΣN (I = 3/2,33S1) interaction is repulsive, while the ΣN (I = 3/2,1S0) interaction is attractive on average. These results are qualitatively consistent with recent phenomenological approaches. A study with the super computer has also produced a very interesting new confinement scenario based on monopoles in QCD.

This report covers many other actives including start of a new program on open innovation platform. I hope you will find them interesting!

Sincerely yours,

Director
