International Workshop on

Physics and Upgrade of the J-PARC Hadron Facility

    September 18(Fr) - 19(Sa), 2009
at the Ibaraki Quantum Beam Research Center
(building where the J-PARC User's office is located)

The J-PARC Hadron Facility has started operation for slow extraction this February. However, this was just a start from one secondary production target (T1) for limited secondary beam line, K1.8BR. On the other hand, a lot of research programs, not only the experiments approved for execution (proposals, LoIs) but also those to be proposed as is expected to be discussed in the present workshop, are waiting. Successive constructions for separated kaon beam lines, K1.8, K1.1BR/K1.1, a neutral kaon beam line, KL, and a high momentum beam line are strongly desired in order to push forward these research programs within a proper time scale, say within the next decade.
The area of the current Hadron hall (so-called Phase I) is about a half of that proposed originally. The extension of the Hadron hall is postponed in the Phase II construction because of limited budget. The current hall is too small to put several production targets and to fullfil the many kind of beam lines as originally planned (original plan). It is of essential importance to extend the Hadron hall in order to fully utilize a powerful beam of J-PARC and carried out various experiments efficiently.
Therefore, the present workshop aims to discuss:
    (1) upgrade plans of beam lines and/or hadron hall, and
    (2) physics plans and/or ideas to be carried out at current and/or upgraded beam lines/hadron hall.
This workshop has a function to encourage to write new proposals or LoIs (note). In this workshop, we expect intensive discussions in an informal atmosphere. Please feel free to present your ideas even if it is not yet polished up very well. We very much welcome you to join this workshop.
