• To be able to connect RCNP-GP wireless LAN you have to do following
  
  • Register the device in the Network Management System.
    Registration can be done with, SYSTEM　A (https://www.rcnp.osaka-u.ac.jp/netmanage1/) or SYSTEM　B (https://www.rcnp.osaka-u.ac.jp/netmanage2/)

• Important points regarding setting up the PC
  
  • Deleting old wireless settings
    Devices that have been connected to RCNP-GP before 2014.08.22 (Friday), must have their old wireless settings removed.
    If the old settings are not first removed, the guides on this page might not work.
    These settings are usually created simply by clicking OK when connecting to wireless LAN.
    Deleting these settings is necessary even if you haven't set up them separately.

  • Regarding the storage of login credentials
    On Windows PC during the setup of the wireless settings, login credentials (username and password) will be asked.
    You can choose to save login credentials on the device, so you don't have to enter them every time.
    However if you change your password, you will have to enter your password again to use the wireless LAN.
    Depending on the situation, think whether you want to or not store the password on the device.
    
    

    Save the login credentials	Personal computer, etc. or if you going to keep using the same username and password
    Do not save the login credentials	Shared computer, etc. or if you know that the login credentials used will change.

    
    
  • Regarding automatic connection settings
    At RCNP there are several different wireless access points.
    If you set up more than one wireless networks as "connect automatically" depending on the signal strengths of the wireless LANs your device might jump between access points. This can cause interruptions in data transfers.
    It's recommended to connect automatically only to one SSID.
    You can set up more than one wireless networks as "connect automatically" if you are in reach of only of them at once at any time.
    For example, the SSID of your home and RCNP-GP can be set simultaneously.
  
  
  

・Setting up the wireless LAN settings

  1. Devices that have been connected to RCNP-GP before 2014.08.22 (Friday), must have their old wireless settings removed.
     How to delete old wireless LAN settings can be seen here.
     
     
  2. Click the network manager icon in the notification area of the taskbar.
     

     

     Click "Open Network and Sharing Center".
     

     

  3. In Network and Sharing Center click "Set up a new connection or network".

     

  4. Select "Manually connect to a wireless network" and click next.

     

  5. Input wireless LAN settings.
     
     • In the "Network name" field input the SSID (network name) you want to connect to.
       In this example we use "RCNP-GP".
       
     • Select "WPA2-Enterprise" as security type.
       
     • Select "AES" as Encryption type.
       
     • Check the "Start this connection automatically" checkbox.
       
     • Leave rest empty.
       
     After inputting the settings click next.
     

     

  6. After few seconds you will see the following window. Click "Change connection settings".

     

  7. Open the "Security" tab by clicking it, and click "Settings".
     If you leave the "Remember my credentials for this connection each time I'm logged on" checked, the computer will remember your login credentials.
     Regarding the storage of login credentials

     

  8. Uncheck the "Validate server certificate" checkbox.
     Click "Configure".
     

     

  9. Uncheck "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)."
     Close "EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties" window by clicking "OK".
     

     

     Close the "Protected EAP Properties" by clicking "OK".
     
     
  10. In the "RCNP-GP Wireless Network Properties" window, click "Advanced settings.
      

      

  11. "On the 802.1X settings" tab check the "Specify authentication mode:" and choose "User authentication" from the dropdown menu.
      Close the "Advanced settings" window by clicking "OK".
      

      

      Close the "RCNP-GP Wireless Network Properties" window by clicking "OK".
      
      
  12. Connect to the wireless LAN.
      Click the network manager icon in the notification area of the taskbar.
      

      

      Select the SSID (network name) you want to connect to, and click "Connect". In this example we connect to "RCNP-GP".
      

      

      
      
  13. You will be prompted to input username and password. Enter your high performance computing server's (saho) username and password.
      The device will get IP address automatically, and after that the connection will be established.

  2. Open "System Preferences" from the dock.
     

     

  3. In "System Preferences" window click "Network" icon.
     

     

  4. From "Network Name" dropdown menu choose the SSID (network name) you want to connect to.
     In this example we use "RCNP-GP"
     

     

  5. You will be prompted to input username and password. Enter your high performance computing server's (saho) username and password and click join.
     

     

  6. Click "Continue".
     

     

  7. Enter your MAC PC's username and password.
     Click "Update Settings".
