LEPS - Laser Electron Photon Experiment at SPring-8

The Laser Electron Photon beamline at SPring-8 (LEPS) produces GeV photon beams by the backward Compton scattering of ultraviolet laser photons off 8 GeV electrons circulating in the SPring-8 synchrotron radiation ring. The beams are used for nuclear and hadron physics experiments by international collaborations. The first LEPS beam was produced at the BL33LEP beamline in 1999 and the first physics run started in 2000.  The second LEP beamline BL31LEP has been constructed for the LEPS2 experiment.  The first LEPS2 beam was obtained in January 2013.
