HAWAII 2005
DNP + JPS JOINT MEETING
PROGRAM, DEADLINES, SPECIAL JOINT Seminar

The second joint meeting of the Divisions of Nuclear Physics of
the American Physical Society and the Physical Society of Japan
will be held 18-22 September on the island of Maui in Hawaii.

Neutrino Workshop & Joint Seminar
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Workshop 6A/6B (Double Beta decay and Neutrino Mass) will be
part of a Joint Seminar addressing neutrinoless double beta
decay and neutrino mass, which starts prior to the Hawaii 2005
Joint Meeting. The purpose is an open discussion of current
and future directions in the study of double beta decay. On
Saturday, 17 September, the seminar series will begin by
addressing the origins of neutrino mass, review existing
experiments, and examining several proposed experiments. On 18
September additional experimental signatures for neutrino mass
and additional proposals to mount neutrinoless double beta
decay experiments will be reviewed during HAW05 Workshops 6A &
6B. On 19 September there will be a morning session addressing
additional details of these experiments and relevant technical
issues. The material will be aimed at graduate students and
young researchers interested in understanding more about the
prospects for neutrino experiments. Details of the Joint

The conference hotels will honor the HAW05 rates for three

日米セミナー「二重ベータ崩壊とニュートリノ質量」開催のご案内
US-Japan seminar on "Double Beta Decay and Neutrino Mass"

「二重ベータ崩壊とニュートリノ質量」に関する日米共同セミナーが
「第２回日米物理学会合同核物理分科会」(2005.9.18-22)のプレイベン
トとして上記の日程・場所で開催されます。18日は分科会のワークショッ
プを兼ねています。このセミナーは平成17年度日本学術振興会二国間交
流事業のサポートを受けています。
ニュートリノ振動現象の確認以後、二重ベータ崩壊の研究は現代物理学
における最も重要な問題のひとつになっています。この研究は、ニュー
トリノがマヨラナ粒子であることを証明する現在知られている唯一の方
法であり、その証明は同時にレプトン数保存則の破れを意味し、宇宙を
物質優勢に導く鍵となっています。この時期に日米の研究者がハワイに
集い、二重ベータ崩壊研究の現在の状況と将来の方向性について議論を
深めることは時宜を得たものと思われます。
セミナーは9月17日(土)から開催されます。初日はニュートリノ質量の起
源についてのトピックや、現在稼動中の実験と提案されている将来の実
験についてのレビュー講演が予定されています。2日目(9/18)は引き続き
将来の実験について議論を進めるとともに、他の実験からのニュートリ
ノ質量に関するアプローチに関してのレビュー講演も予定されています。
19日には午前中のセッションが予定されており、これらの実験の詳細に
ついての議論と技術的な問題についての講演を持ちたいと考えています。
普段なかなか聞けない方の講演もあり、興味をお持ち頂けると思います。
