1. Experiment
This is the call for new proposals as well as updated proposals
for experiments at the RCNP Cyclotron Facility.
Proposal submission deadline: Sunday, July 24, 2016
B-PAC meeting: Wednesday August 24, 2016
The RCNP Beam-time Program Advisory Committee (B-PAC)
evaluates scientific values and feasibility of the proposed experiments
as well as the budget requests. The result of the B-PAC is submitted to
the Director. B-PAC meets twice a year and reviews research programs
received more than one month in advance of the B-PAC meeting although
proposals may be submitted at any time.
The spokesperson or one of collaborators is requested to give an oral
presentation of the proposal at B-PAC. The spokespersons are strongly
requested to give the presentation at the B-PAC by themselves. If the
spokesperson is not available, a presentation by TV conference system
is acceptable. In the case, a representative is requested to attend the
meeting. According to the recommendation of B-PAC, beam time will be
scheduled for approved proposals.
Spokespersons are requested to send the numerical data to the
Japan Charged-Particle Reaction data Group (JCPRG) in order to add
them to the data base after completing their experiments. URL of
JCPRG is http://www.jcprg.org/.
The beam time for approved proposals will be scheduled within
two years from the date of the approval, depending on the status of the
preparations.
A proposal should include COVER PAGE, SUMMARY OF
EXPERIMENT and DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED
RESEARCH. Proposals should be sent to the RCNP Director with
"Research Program" clearly written on the envelope if it is sent by
conventional mail. The official language is English.
The RCNP director keeps about 10% of the total beam time to be
distributed at his own discretion. This includes beam time for training
undergraduate students upon request. Those who are interested in this
beam time are asked to submit proper proposals, at any time to the
Director.
Present B-PAC members

M. Itoh (Tohoku Univ.)
Y. Matsuda (Univ. Tokyo)
T. Myo (Osaka Inst. Tech.)
H. Nakada (Chiba Univ.)

2. Project
Proposals of projects which fill at least one of following criteria
are also invited.
a. Experiments which are expected to take more than 2 years to be
completed.
b. Experiments which request budgets larger than ten millions JPY
in total to RCNP.
c. Experiments which request beam time longer than 30 days/year.
d. Projects for constructing new equipment or for doing fundamental
developments which are expected to be widely used in other
experiments.
Proposals will be reviewed by the P-PAC or a sub-committee of
P-PAC, if necessary. The spokesperson is requested to give an oral
presentation of the proposal. The deadline of proposals to be reviewed
in the coming P-PAC in August is Sunday, July 24, 2016.
At the end of the project, the spokesperson should write a report
on the accomplishments, budgets and other details of the project as an
article of the RCNP Annual Report.
Details of the call for project proposals are found on
http://www.rcnp.osaka-u.ac.jp/Divisions/plan/project/index.html.
3. Present Status and Highlights of RCNP Cyclotron Facilities
The present status of RCNP Cyclotron Facilities is found on the
Web pages for reference for Proposals. URL is
http://www.rcnp.osaka-u.ac.jp/Divisions/plan/b-pac/reference.html.
4. Safety Check
A safety check is made for materials or equipments you will use in
your proposed experiment. If you use one of the following items, the
details need to be described in the proposal.
a) a laser
b) a flammable gas such as hydrogen, methane, ethane etc. except
for the gases used for the wire chambers of Grand Raiden/LAS
and the PPAC at EN-course.
c) nuclear fuel materials
d) a gaseous or liquid target
e) beryllium
f) chemicals
g) un-sealed radio-isotopes
h) other materials or equipment to be controlled.
In principle, the use of animals is forbidden at RCNP. If you have
any questions about the safety, please contact the radiation control
office before submitting proposals.
5. Application form
An application form can be found on the Web pages. URL is
