I research on the subject “Solvent extraction experiments of element 104, Rf, by soft ligand and quantum chemical calculations on the extracted complexes”.
In transactinide region, The relativistic effect on atomic orbitals strongly impacts on even valence orbitals, so transactinide elements may have different chemical properties from that of the homologous elements. However, their chemical properties are mostly unknown due to difficulty of conducting chemical experiments.
I focused on Rutherfordium (Z=104, Rf), which is the lightest element on transactinide. Chemical studies of Rf have previously used reaction systems with hard bases, indicating that Rf has weaker interactions with hard bases than its homologous elements. I focused on soft bases and planned to discuss relativistic effect on Rf from the aspect of orbital interaction by combination of solvent extraction experiments using soft ligand and relativistic quantum chemical calculations.
