During my undergraduate study, I have realized how interesting the chemical biology research and development of new drugs can be, as well as the importance of this field to society. Since entering the Graduate School of Science at Osaka University, I have been researching the development of novel alpha therapy drugs for the cancer treatment. In recent years, alpha therapy has been attracting much attention as a treatment for cancer. The high energy of alpha ray makes it highly effective in killing cancer, and it also has low penetration depth, which makes it less invasive to surrounding normal cells and organs. My research is focusing on the alpha emitter Astatine-211 (211At), which can be produced using the accelerator (cyclotron) at Osaka University. 211At, with a comparatively short half-life of 7.2h, is one of the most attractive α-particle nuclides for use in α-emission radiotherapy. My research is aim to develop of 211At labeled compounds for nuclear medicine treatment to suppress refractory cancer. We also believe that our research will help people all over the world who are suffering from cancer, and we hope to work towards the realization of a longevous and healthy society.
