Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science

Nice to meet you. My name is Xiaosheng Xing, and I am a PhD student in the Graduate School of Science at Osaka University, based at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP).
My research is in theoretical nuclear physics, with a particular focus on the shapes of atomic nuclei. Atomic nuclei are not always perfectly spherical; they can adopt a variety of deformed shapes, including pear-shaped configurations that break spatial inversion symmetry. My research aims to develop a mathematical framework for describing such exotic nuclear shapes and to connect those descriptions with experimentally observable quantities.
Before entering graduate school, I spent one year in industry. I then spent about a year studying Japanese at a language school before joining the master's program at RCNP in October 2023. I advanced to the PhD program in October 2025.
My research relies heavily on symmetry and group theory. In fact, my interest in pure mathematics—including algebra, particularly group theory and Galois theory, as well as differential geometry—predates my research in nuclear physics. I continue to study these subjects independently alongside my research.
Through PQBA, I hope to interact with researchers from diverse fields and gain a deeper understanding of how quantum beam science connects fundamental research with experimental applications and society. Thank you very much.
