Title:
Impact of Neutron Star Mergers vs. Supernovae on Explosive Nucleosynthesis
and Neutrino Physics
Abstract:
Terrestrial heavy elements such as uranium are considered to be produced
via rapid neutron-capture (r-) process. There have been controversy between
the supernova explosion scenario and the neutron-star merger scenario as
the mechanism of r-process. Recently, an event of the neutron-star merger
was identified with telescopes of gravitational waves, cosmic gamma-rays,
and optical and infrared lights, strongly suggesting the neutron-star merger
scenario. This is actually the beginning of the nuclear astrophysics based
on the multi-messenger astronomy. In this seminar, recent studies on the
origin of heavy elements via the theoretical calculations of r-process
nucleosynthesis as well as chemical and dynamical evolutions of our galaxy
will be presented. The importance of the neutrino oscillation in supernova
nucleosynthesis is also discussed.
