Hello, I’m Yuki Rea Hamano, France-born with Japanese roots. I joined the Kikuchi group at the Cybermedia Center in April 2021, where I have been researching one of the most curious phases of matter: the spin glass phase. At low temperature, spin systems typically organize into an ordered phase. In spin glasses on the other hand no such long-range order arises below freezing. This unusual signature is believed to be caused by the presence of two key ingredients: disorder and frustration. Recent works have found, however, that randomness can be self-generated and may not be explicitly required. I am currently researching the spin glass phase of this type of disorder-free model. The theory of spin glasses is also interesting for its many applications to other studies, like that of feed-forward neural nets and of evolutionary biology.

I joined the PQBA program in October 2021.
