I am originally from France and studied photonics through a double-degree program between France and Canada before coming to Japan for my PhD. Outside of research, I enjoy traveling and exploring different parts of Japan. I am also a fan of Japanese music and often go to live concerts.
My research is about designing photonic materials to control how light propagates. More specifically, I study complete photonic band gaps, which are frequency ranges where light cannot propagate in any direction or polarization. These band gaps are usually studied in periodic photonic crystals, but they can also appear in non-periodic structures such as quasicrystals and disordered structures that remain unusually uniform over large length scales.
Through numerical simulations, I try to understand what makes these structures favorable for the formation of large complete band gaps. I am particularly interested in how their geometrical organization affects their optical properties. My goal is to identify design principles for non-periodic photonic materials with large band gaps and more isotropic properties. Such materials could be useful for applications that require precise control or guidance of light.
